Subject: Four Winds Casino Trip Report - Automated Poker Tables
This past Saturday I decided to make the trip out to Four Winds Casino
located in New Buffalo, Michigan. It is about a two hour drive from my
house and past several other poker rooms that I normally play. I decided
to make the extra drive to check out the automated PokePro poker tables.
I arrived at the casino, signed up for a players card and headed to the
poker room. The staff working the poker room was very friendly and took
the time to explain how to use the PokerPro tables and deposit cash on the
players card. To sign up for a game, they have a touch screen monitor the
players use to register for any of the games being offered. On Saturday
evening they had six .50/1.00 100 max, three 1.00/2.00 and two 5.00/10.00
NL tables going. They were also offering a $100 SNG but only a few people
had signed up for it. I chose the .50/1.00 table as that was the only
table that had immediate seating.
I arrive at my table and there are 9 other players. The big stack has
$390 and the short stack has $50. Most of the players at the table had
between $80 & $120. The first hour I am card dead and play very few
hands. The only hands I am involved in are with the big stack who is
betting between $25 & $50 after each flop into $6 pots. I think I folded
two or three hands where I had TPTK but did not want to risk $50 against
the big stack. During thee second hour, I had a great run of cards
including two flopped ace high flushes and several sets. The big stack at
the table continued to build his stack to $460 but quickly gave it back to
everyone at the table during my 2nd and 3rd hour at the table. Once he
busted and left the table the other players were commenting how lucky he
was before I arrived by pushing all in preflop with 72 and 96, both times
flopping a full house against KK & AA.
I ended up playing for about 6 hours, finished up $200. Not once during
the time I was playing did someone re-raise preflop. There was a player
who twice had pocket aces who only called a preflop raise. The players
were mostly tourists and a couple in their early 20's. We also had the
early 20's player with the sunglasses and pull over with hood. He was the
table captain, resident expert, wannabe poker pro. He frequently made
sure to show everyone a wad of $100 bills to remind everyone that despite
being down several hundred dollars, he would reload his card and win back
everything he had lost against us donkeys. Fortunately/Unfortunately for
him, his girlfriend pulled him from the table to go dancing..LOL.
I have seen a lot of people on RGP complain about the automated PokerPro
tables. I really enjoyed the tables. To view the cards, I just had to
put my hand on the table on top of my face down cards and the table would
sense the heat from my hands and turn the cards over. Rake was only $3,
no tipping and we played twice as many hands per hour. Nor was it very
difficult to get a read on a player.. Maybe it had more to do with it
being a low limit table. The only thing I missed was playing with the
poker chips. I could not figure out what to do with my hands when I was
not playing a hand.
Overall, it was a great experience and I am looking forward to playing
there again. It will not be a regular drive and I will book a hotel room
the next time I am there in mid July. Also, the poker room staff was
outstanding. They had four people working, who were all in a great mood
and extremely friendly and very helpful. This probably impressed me the
most about the poker room.
